Getty Task 2 Page 1 March 1, 19 g3
1
S
1.0

L
TAE TWENTYIIILE PAR% PROJECT
GROUND WATER HYDROLOGY - h1INE INFLOW ESTIMATES
The objective of the hydrologic portion of this study was to evaluate the
regional and local hydrology of the Tweatymile Park area and estimate effects
of a proposed underground mine oa the hydrologic regime. Because the coal
seam to be mined, the Wadge, occurs is a water bearing zone, mining will cause
water to flow into the mine. Since inflows to nndergrovad mines can cause
difficulties in mine planning end operation and thus add to the ezpense of
operating the mine, the primary purpose of the Task 2 study was to quantify
the mine inflow. The anticipated effects on the ezistiag hydrology of the
region were el so investigated. Because of the complezity of the groundwater
hydrology of the region, a two dimensional finite difference groundwater flow
model was utilized to estimate quantities of inflow.
Ia the Task 1 report, presented earlier, the hydrologic and geologic
conditions that ~e:ist in the study area were described. To provide
continuity, some of the material presented in the Task 1 report will be
included is this report, however, mach of the descriptive and interpretive
cork will not be included and references to the Task 1 report are noted as
simulation, conclusions, and recommendations.
appropriate in this report.
In the following sections the simulation model is described, the
available data is reviewed, and the computer model formulation and calibration
is presented. The final sections provide the results of the computer
•
,r~
u
