• Roundup @ 1/2 gallon/acre in the
spring at the bloom stage.
• Banvel can be used if treatments are
at least 2.5 the height from a tree
trunk and the daily high temp. is less
than 85F for the next three days.
Also the water table should be more
than 10 feet beneath the surface.
Apply @ 1pUacre at the same timing
az the 2,4-D.
• Tordon 22K is the most consistant
on musk thistle @ 1/lpt/acre in the
fall, but should be used only if
treatments are at least 2.5 the height
from a tree trunk and the water table
is more than 10 feet beneath the
surface.
• GLrtail (a premix of clopyralid &
2,4-D amine) @ 2gts/acre.
• Transline/Stinger @ 2J3pt/acre for
most selective control around
desirable trees.
Because of their shorter life cycle, musk
thistle plants can be effectively treated with
herbicides. All herbicide treatments should
be applied at the rosette stage of the plant.
Generally, herbicide applications would be in
early spring or fall. Ahvays read and follow
the label!
Proper calibration with a handsprayer /
handgun can be done by
1. Filling the sprayer with water.
2. With a watch timing how long it
takes to uniformly spray an area
18.Sft x 18.Sft.
3. Using the recorded time, spray
again into a mcazuring device.
The amount collected in ounces equals
the gallons per acre. Add the above
amounts of herbicide to this much water for
your handspraying task.
Example: If Rancher Smith collects back
into his sprayer 100 oz after spraying the
18.5x18.5 spot, then 100oz=100gaUacre. For
every 100oz. of spray mix he needs to add 1
tablespoon of 2,4-D to his tank (2 # acre
rate in his backpack) adding the remainder
in water. 2 quarts per 100ga1. in large
sprayers.
Other products arc in the development stage
at this time.
INTEGRATED WEED
MANAGEMENT
of MUSK THISTLE
for large lot owners,
farmers, and ranchers.
~ Ypw \
i
's
~~.,D~r.
~ FLOWER /
RosF lr6
Douglas Co.
