Lime occurs at <br />a depth of about 12 inches. <br />The Litle soils hate a light brownish-gray silty clay <br />loan[. gCnCr(L1lV limy, surface layer about 3 inches thick. <br />Their subsoil, about 13 inches thick, is limp, pale-brown <br />clay or silty clay in the upper part and is clay in the lower <br />part. Beds of partly consolidated, clayey shale accttr at a <br />depth of about 39 inches. <br />The major soils in this association areslowly to moder- <br />ately permeable. Runoff generally is moderate to rapid. <br />Erosion normally is slight to moderate, but it is severe m <br />some cultivated areas. <br />i+finor parts of this association are the Thedalund, Sam- <br />ail, and Fondis soils on uplands and Loamy alluvial land <br />along streams. <br />Jlost of this association is used to pasturo cattle or as <br />wildlife habitat. The native grasses are western wheat- <br />grass, blue grama~ plains bluegrass, and pricklypear cac- <br />tus. ~lntere the sods are cultivated, wheat is rho principal <br />crop. Stubble mulching, terracing, contour stripcropping, <br />and other intensive conservation practices are needed to <br />help control erosion, conserve moisture, and maintain or <br />increase the growth of crops. i\Iany homes are in this asso- <br />ciation in the tcestern part of the county. Gravel roads are <br />about 3 to 3 miles apart through most of the association. <br />One improved road crosses the middle of the Lowry <br />Bombing Range from west to east. <br />Nunn-Bresser•Ascalon Association <br />Deep; steady level and undulating, loamy soils that haste <br />a clayey to Zoamy subsoil; developed in outuas1c; on scp- <br />lanrls and terraces <br />This association is on uplands in the western and central <br />parts of the county. hlost areas are undulating and hate <br />slopes ranging from 0 to 4 percent. The soils are deep anti <br />bare a clayey to loamy sttbsotl. <br />Tltis association occupies about 13 percent of the cou+tt}'. <br />aliottt 60 percent is made up of ?~TUnn soils, 15 pet'cent of <br />Bresset• soils. 15 percent of _lscalon soils, aitd the remain- <br />ing 10 percentof minorsoils. <br />The Bunn soils occur in the more nearly level areas of <br />this as=_ociatioit. They Mace agrayish-brown loam surface <br />la}'er about 3 inches thick. Their subsoil is brownish clay <br />loam, light clay, and sandy clay loam nbortt 19 inches <br />thick. Lime occurs at a deptdt of about 22 inches. <br />The Bre=_ser soils occur' on knobs and in rolling areas. <br />Their surface layer is dark grayish-brown sandy loam <br />about 5 inches thick. The subsoil estends to a depth of <br />about 2S inches. It is hard or very hard when dry.
