Name:
Doc. Date (if no
stamp):
Gentle persons,
April 6, 20
Pages:2/2
i am writing in regard to a Petition for Limited Mining filed by Joseph Curftis
Hnrden on the Mountain Claim in Clear Creek County. I believe the date of Che
petition was Jan 27, 2004. I just learned of the petition from one of our
County Commissioners who was apparently informed by your office.
I live less than a mile away, and am a board member of the homeowners
associaticn. I am writing own my own behalf, and not for the Board. I wou
like to come out .strongly against this action for the following reasons;
1.~ The Mountain Claim is located in York Gulch, a mountain residential
community. The area was clearly residential ac the time Mr. Harden acq
the property, and many more homes have been built nearby since he acqu
the property.
2. The homes in the area are, for the most part, full time residences in
$300,000 plus category. They are not simple mining shacks. The area is
known as York Gulch, and contains more than 100 homes.
3. with the exception of one "dabbler", no real mining has been done in t'
Guichfor over 75 years. (And that very limited activity ceased over a
dozen .years ago.) Ai Mosche, owner of the Phoenix Mine, and nationally
known mining engineer, evaluated the entire area for the then owners al
25 years ago. According to Mr. Mosche, the likelihood of finding gold
the area was extremely remote, and he recommended that the owners sell
land for residential property, which was done.
4. Mr. Harden's property is currently strewn with trash, and is afire ha'
to the residences on the road above it. We suspect that Mr. Harden is
'simply trying to avoid cleaning up the junk on his property by pretend:
to "mine" there.
s ~a~ ly ~~ v
z' G~
Ma ci sowmar~
PO Box 1690
Idaho Springs CO SOd52
