MINING AND RECLAMATION PLAN January, 1986
t•IT. GUNNISON N0. 1 MINE
3.5 Area Closure or Abandonment
3.5.1 Surface
Upon completion of underground mining, mine openings will be sealed, tracks and
structures dismantled, foundations covered, roads reclaimed, ponds removed, and
the entire surface facility area will be regraded to its approximate original
contour and revegetated as prescribed in Section 4, Reclamation Plan and also in
Appendices A, B, and C. The portal bench excavation as it is a lower cut
(approximately 15 feet) will become part of the final contour. Natural slope
measurements have been made and will be utilized during final grading to
establish the land surface configuration resembling that of the initial area
contour. The affected surface areas will he of the same approximate grades
shown in Exhibit 4.2.1.A "Conceptual Topography After Mining", included in the
Mining and Reclamation Plan folTowine completion of ;Wining and reclamation
operations.
The teal seam wail be exposed only at the surface for portal or ventilation
access, and will be minimized to the extent practical. Such exposures of the
coal seam ultimately will be recovered. We do not anticipate any exposed coal
seams, acid-forming, toxic-fcning or combustible materials, or other such
minerals to be used, produced or left after mining.
Approximately one to two years will be required for complete mine dismantling,
resurfacing, and seeding of the surface facility area.
Final graded slopes will not exceed 36 percent (1:2.8). Reseeding will commence
during the earliest planting season following final contouring.
A period of one year will be required to closely monitor revegetation and ensure
-~ adequate plant growth. A11 operations and reclamation should be completed
within ~~+o years after underground mining terminates. See Section 4 for
reclamation details and final topography.
3-80 Revised Jun. 1994, MR128
