WFC constnictcd Pond 005 in November 1988. Soil samples were taken and evaluated for topsoil •
suitability, see Exhibit 16, Technical Revision 06. WFC salvaged and stockpiled approximately ]foot of
topsoil during construction. The total stockpile volume was approximately 4,000 yd'.
2.04.10 Vegetation Information
A vegetation map has been prepared which shows the area which is affected by the Golden Eagle Mine
Surface facilities and additional areas which will be disturbed during the permit term. The various plant
communities are delineated based on aerial mapping and field mapping which was completed by Uniscale
Corporation. Uniscale has conducted ttvo extensive sun•eys of the areas around the surface facilities to
determine species composition, cover, productivity, and woody plan[ density. Map 9, Vegetation,
delineates each plant community. In addition, a grassland reference area has been selected and sampled.
An Alluvial Valley Reference area was selected during final reclamation in 1998. The selected area lies
adjacent to and east of the area occupied by Pond 003. Both the Grassland and Alluvial Valley reference
areas are shown on Map 3B, Revised permit Boundary & Disturbance Area.
The area which the surface facilities of the Golden Eagle Mine occupied was first disturbed in 1976.
Vegetative baseline information was no[ collected prior to disturbance of this area. However, adjacent
aeeas to the permit area have been sampled to determine the species composition, cover, productivity, and
woody plant density and are statistically compared to the selected grassland reference area. Methods
which have been used to sample the existing plan[ communities and select the reference area is disettssed
by Uniscale and shown in Exhibit 13, Vegetation Information.
•
Page 2.04-30(a) (Revised 8-12-99 TR-50)
~,So •
c -~`~
