~ ~ the wells which are located within one mile or more of the Golden Eagle
Mine and their associated owners, permit numbers, and yields. The
locations of these wells are shown on Map 7, Regional Hydrology. A listing
of each individual well, its owner, use and other pertinent information is
presented in Exhibit 8, Water Well Information. Quality of subsurface
water has been determined at numerous locations shown on Map 7, Regional
Hydrology. Analyses of the groundwater at these locations are shown in
Exhibit 9, Water Quality Analysis.
WFC coi~leted a water user survey on May 9 and 10, 1984. The area
surveyed covered one mile surrounding the New Elk and Golden Eagle permit
boundaries. The purpose of this survey was to supplement the above survey
completed by CFSI (see Exhibit 8, Water Well Information) and assess the
potential effects of mining on the quality and quantity of water in these
wells.
Residents within the area of study were interviewed to determine
. if wells for danestic or agricultural water supply existed. Windmills and
stock ponds were also inventoried during this survey. Information on
wells, windmills and stock ponds is provided in Table 7, Results of Well
Survey, Table 8, Results of Windmill Survey and Table 9, Results of Stock
Pond Survey. Resource locations are plotted on Map 7, Regional Hydrology.
City water is the primary source of water for domestic use east of
the North Fork of the Pu[yatoire River. Water is piped in a southeasterly
direction along the North Fork via an aqueduct and then east on the north
side of Highway 12. With the exception of two residents, everyone
contacted uses city water. These exceptions are wells 15 and 16. City
water is not available to the west of the North Fork so these residents
rely on wells.
The well inventory shows two basic sources of well water. The
first syst~n cronsists of an alluvial aquifer or springs along the Middle
Fork of the Pun3atoire River. The second system is localized subsurface
2.04-10
