_ iii iiiiiiiiiiiuiii
Doc Date:12H 112001
•
SI a 2.04.10 Vegetation Information
GEC Minerals, Inc. has delineated the various plant communities
found within the permit area and are shown on the Vegetation Maps
Nos. T3 and 14. These maps are based on interpretation of air
photographs. The plant communities are identified as grassland,
woodland, and disturbed.
Preliminary field investigations were completed in late 1980.
Results of these investigations are shown in Exhibit 16. In
addition, plant species encountered during these surveys in both
the reference areas and the area which GEC Minerals, Inc. plans to
mine during the next five years are included within Exhibit 16.
Generally, two types of vegetation are encountered. The grassland
community contains Blue Gramma as a dominant species, and the
• woodland plant community contain Pinyon Pine, Juniper and Gambles
Oak as the primary woody species. As shown in Exhibit 16, Vegetation
Survey, grassland and woodland predominate. Exhibit 4 contains the
composition of the plant communities and discusses the effect that the
lack of water, soil quality and past management have had on the
vegetation. In addition, Exhibit 4 correlates slope, soil type and
vegetation.
No rare or endangered plant species were found within the mine area
during this investigation.
GEC Minerals, Inc. has not conducted production and cover analyses
of the area but plans to procure the required information during
the next growing season. GEC Minerals, Inc. also will utilize
methods approved by the Colorado Mine Land Reclamation Division for
collecting and analyzing this information.

2.04-18
