The sample adequacy formula used for this data set is explained fully in
Table K-17, page k-49 of the 16 June 1980 submission.
The sample adequacy formula used for this data set is explained fully in
Table K-17, page k-49 of the 16 June 1980 submission.
We have presented two commonly used diversity indices (including the
Shannon-Weiner) for each vegetation type in the June 1980 submission.
We think this presentation addresses any existing or proposed guidelines
•
concerning diversity indices. Furthermore, the weighted P, suggested is
t
not a realistic figure. As suggested,
affected plant community acres
Pi = Pi in which species A occurs
total affected acres
The proposed weighted Pi seems not to take into account the fact that
there is in many cases a Pi for a species in several vegetation types. If
it was really desirable to calculate an affected azea weighted Pi, a slight
modification of the formula could be used to calculate the value.
However, we question the use of this value and, especially, the
"Importance Value' derived from the weighted Pi, until the specific use
of these abstract numbers in determination of reclamation success is
specified. Importance values and related synthesized numbers will
require intensive review as to their practical applicability as input to
reclamation success evaluation.
K-~17a
