Points were located is the field by <br />pacing. Productivity exclosures were established in the big sagebrush reference <br />area in May, 1979• Exclosures were not located in the mountain shrub or meadow <br />reference azeas as there was no potential for domestic livestock to graze the sites <br />and wild herbivore populations were known to be low during the summer. Quanti- <br />tative cover, density and productivity sampling procedures were as described in <br />Sections 2.2.2, 2.Z.3, and 2.2.4. <br />Z.4 PLANT SPECIES COLLECTION AND IDENTIFICATION <br />Commencing in May, 1979 all species observed in flower were collected <br />throughout the growing season. The identity of vascular and nonvasculaz plants was <br />confirmed by Dr. William A. Weber, Curatos of the Herbazium, University of <br />Colorado. Scientific names are according to Weber and Johnson (1976). Common <br />. names have no formal nomenclatorial rules. Weber (1976) and Beetle (1970) were <br />consulted in an attempt to apply the most widely used names.
