•
feel that the wildlife values of the reservoir will serve as reasonable mitigation for the loss of
these isolated habitats. If the area is reclaimed for some other purpose than water storage, we
would need to know what the proposed land use would be to determine what if any mitigation
• might be reasonable.
5) Small Wetland/Tree/Grass Habitat at East Side of Property -We would prefer to see this
area remain in place. If it must be removed for mining, we suggest that additional plantings be
made in the various buffer zones previously mentioned. We can discuss specifics on this later
• if necessary.
6) Small Pond/Riparian Complex - As I understand it, no mining is proposed here, but the
possibility is being explored of making a donation of this land for open space purposes. This
might be a good idea and we will be happy to discuss it further if you like.
• Finally, I should comment that if water storage reservoirs are indeed selected as the end use,
we would like to discuss the possibility of perhaps maintaining a fishery in them and allowing
some public fishing opportunity.
I hope these comments help scope out our concerns. Obviously, we probably will need to
0 discuss lots of these ideas further.
Sincerely,
Dave Weber
Habitat Biologist
♦ cc: Kari Doerr, DWM
Jim Satterfield, Fishery Biologist
Darryl Todd, Asst.
