~'~ III IIIIIIIIIIIIIIII •
~._ 999
•
STATE OF COLORADO
Roy Romer, Governor
DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES
MINED LAND RECLAMATION DIVISION
DAVID C. SHELTON, Director
DATE: April 1, 1987
T0: Mr. John Dillon, Sandco, Inc.
FROM: Patricia C. Martinek, Reclamation Specialist~~~
RE: File No. M-87-044
Adequacy Items
The following items must be addressed by the applicant in order to satisfy the
applicable requirements of C.R.S. 34-32-101 et seq. 14ineral Rules and
Regulations of the Mined Land Reclamation Board-
Exhibit C - Mining Plan
1. Approximately how much material do you plan to extract each year (in
tons or cubic yardsl? We assume that this amount can be annually
replenished by the Animas River without chancing the river course,
altering the size and shape of the sand bar, and causing upstream or
downstream bank erosion.
2. Please describe what depth and roughly what shape excavations will be
dug on the sand bar. We assume that the nature of these excavations
will not cause undue river scouring upstream of your site.
3. Please explain how your excavating plans will minimize your impact to
the water quality of the Animas P.iver. For example, do you plan to
limit your mining to times of low river flow? Would excavations be
above the water level? Will equipment be prevented from driving in
flowing river water? Wi11 pits be isolated from the main river flow?
Exhibit D - Reclamation Plan
1. Your plans for reclaiming the site seem to be sufficient. You state
that you plan to grade the site back to its original configuration, and
that the road will be left intact for the landowners' use. Please
affirm that these plans include removal of all mining-related equipment,
refuse, and stockpiles, and that grading will include removal of the
sediment ponds and ditch.
2. We believe that a E2,500.00 financial warranty should be sufficient for
this site.
cc: Edward Bischoff, Minerals Program Supervisor
/bdc
8577E
423 Centennial Building, 1313 Sherman Street Denver, Colorado 80203-2273 Tel.
