See Figure 1 Vicinity Map.
• Block 17 Directions to the Site:
Take Hwy 550,'/z mile North from Montrose Colorado to LaSalle Rd. continue North an
additional 1/8 mile to the Western Gravel Inc. main yard entrance. The Bridge site is along the
eastern property line adjacent to the Uncompahgre river.
Bloc 18 Nnture of Activity:
Construction of a steel Bridge crossing of the Uncompahgre river. Necessary activities
include the construction of bridge abutments on both sides of the river. The abutments will be
constructed using sheet piling and compacted backfill. The bridge abutments will rest on pilings
with a poured concrete cap both sides of the river. The total span of the Bridge will be 70 ft. The
total embankment fill that impacts wetland areas will be less than 120 Lft along center line of the
fill (currently estimated at 106ft). The total impacted wetland acreage will be less than 0.15 ac
(currently estimated at 0.1 I ac). See Figures 2,3&4; Plan, Profile & Details.
Construction activities will include the excavation and removal of unsuitable foundation soils
down to the existing gravel riverbed, (estimated at less than 4 feet). No excavation within the
existing river channel is anticipated at this time. Construction will further include the importation
of suitable fill to be placed behind the sheetpile abutments and wing walls. Controlled density fill
("Flow-Fill") may be utilized to back fill selected areas around sheet piling and driven piles. Wing
walls will be constructed at approximately 45 degree angles to the abutments on both the up and
• down stream sides. The abutments will be sufficiently long so as to contain the fill behind the
abutments. Rip Rap will be placed on the up and down stream sides to limit erosion.
