The initial total
six-row shelterbek of 500 shrubs adjacent to the spring- p g
Est of this planting, including the landowner's l5% contribution, was $1,998. This shelterbek was
Gated tteaur the pond in order to provide good cover for animals approachutg the pond to drink and as
rtential nesting habitat for ducks.
Concerns: If the spring were to go dry due to the proposed mining operation, the value of this
habitat may be lessened significarttly.
t addition, we would like to point out that both the above gratrcs have a contractual term of 10 years.
he landowner is required to maintain the above habitat improvement practices for the duration of the
c,ntract. Failure to do so would resuk in the landowner being liable to repay the Division of Wildlife's
in her property
We highly recott-mend that strategically sited monitoring wells be installed to obtain groundwater
information both pre-muting and throughout the duration of the mining so as to assure the integrity of
adjacent groundwater supplies. The Division of Wildlife appreciates this opportunity to cottunent on this
mining projec[. If you have any questions, please contact me at (970)472-4435.
