Being a history buff, I had been told prior to the research that this
ground was sacred because of it being a burial Bound. I did not think much aboutr it
until recently. I was made aware through The Chronicle-News (June 14, 2004) that
Valco Inc, has applied for a construction material permit from the Land and Reclamation
Board. This permit is for the extraction of construction materials in Las Animas County
Colorado, The problem with this permit is it encompasses an old, sacred Indian burial
ground.
I am not against business of any type; however I think this is sacrilegious and disturbing.
It is a horrifying thought that human remains will be used in construction materials.
These people were rested here and do not belong to the laadowners to do with as they
please. I hope this letter will bring about some change in thinking. We do not need to
disturb this land. There is plenty of land available that could be permitted without
disturbing such a historical area.
Thank 7~ou far your help. Perhaps we can stop this offensive situation
