JWW/MCS
10/94
The Bowbac series consists of moderately deep, well drained soils formed in alluvium,
eolian deposits or residuum derived primarily from argillaceous sandstone. They occupy
dissected fan remnants, fan piedmonts, hillslopes, pediments, ridges and buttes. Slopes
are 0 to 15 percent and both simple and complex. The mean annual precipitation is
about 13 inches, and the mean annual temperature is about 46 degrees F.
TAXONOMIC CLASS: Fine-loamy, mixed, mesic Ustic Haplargids
TYPICAL PEDON: Bowbac sandy loam-on a northeast facing slope of 1 percent under
native vegetation.
