PHONE : (303) 444-2151
December 21, 1979
Mr. James Schmieding
Reclamation Specialist
Mined Land Reclamation
723 Centennial Building
1313 Sherman Street
Denver, Colorado 80203
RE: Nelson Pit: #74-70
Dear Jim:
The following comments relate to your December 12 , 1979 letter con-
cerning the Nelson Pit application.
1. Mining Plan
a. Topsoil on the site ranges from 3" to 12" deep.
Each mining stage will involve stripping immediately
prior to mining. At this time topsoil will be stock-
piled so that it is close to the area on which it will
be spread.
b. There will be no adverse effect on Boulder Creek.
2 . Reclamation Plan
a. Reclamation will proceed concurrently with mining and
will begin within one year after mining has begun for
each stage. Mining of one stage will be substantially
completed before the next stage is begun. Exact length
of each stage and, therefore, how many acres of land
will be reclaimed will depend on success in bidding jobs.
b. Flatiron will plant 150 riparian trees of 1 inch caliper
in groups on lake banks and islands. Trees will be of the
following species , as available:
Plains Cottonwood
Peach-leaved Willow
Narrowleaf Cottonwood
Coyote Willow
Hawthorn
American Plum
