~ 141
~`
site: 5RT26 (Figs 1, 29).
siee Type: Open architectural.
rocation: NWl{NW;, Sec. 11, Ton, R86w; UTM Zone 13, E329,090m., N4,467,990m.
Description: 5RT26 is an historic site consisting of a semisubterranean
structure built of native sandstone blocks with a log super-structure.
The site elevation is 7380 ft. (2,249 m.). Vegetation around the site
includes serviceberry, sagebrush, grasses, 'and Gamble's oak. The nearest
water is a seasonal drainage, roughly 300 m. to the north, which flows in-

to Middle Creek. The site is situated on the west side of a north-trendiny
ridge, on a slight slope. Cultural debris lncludes sheet metal roofiny,
broken glass, an iron oven door, and other historic trash. The site is
relatively undisturbed, although a powerline traverses within 100 m. of the

~
• site. The structure itself, however, is in poor condition.
-
-~ Diagnostic Artifacts: None.
evaluation: Lacking the expertise to evaluate 5RT26, we feel the site's
potential historical significance should await archival search and analysis
by a competent specialist in Colorado history. On the basis of our obser-
vations we feel that the site does not qualify for nomination to the NRHP

on architectural grounds.

~~a
r~
a~
