Substantial legal and financial commitments were made on December 16, 1976, when an <br />Agreement to 1) construct the Roadside North Portal and 2) supply approximately <br />13,450,000 tons of coal was executed. <br />(3) Surface mining activities within 300' of occupied dwellings -not applicable. <br />2.03.8 Permit Term Information <br />(1) Surface mining activity schedule -not applicable. <br />(2) Underground coal mining operations began in the permit area in 1899 and have run <br />continuously until the present time. Operations using current mining methods began in <br />1974. From 1974 to 1999, approximately 243 acres of surface lands were disturbed in <br />conjunction with mining operations. Disturbance of additional surface lands during the fife <br />of the permit is only planned at Cameo Borrow Area No. 2. Table 12-1 shows the current <br />projected disturbance for the permit. <br /> <br />The total area affected by coal extraction during the life of the mine is depicted on in Tab <br />Section 12, Table 12-2. <br />Mining ceased at the Roadside Portals on December 2, 1999. The current permit expires <br />January 3, 2003. Additional 5 year permit terms will be applied for to extend the permit <br />through the 10 year bond liability period. <br />(3) Request for permit term greater than 5 years -not applicable. <br />2.03.9 Personal Injury and Property Damage lnformation <br />(1) A copy of an insurance certificate certifying that the applicant has a public liability <br />insurance policy in force for the coal mining operation for which the permit is sought is <br />provided in Figure 3-1 <br />• 3-5 1102 <br />
