• management, the stocking of sheep on antelope ranges
may be considered detrimental to optimum antelope
production and in some cases severely limits antelope
production.
(6) Harvest
Harvest data is presented in table 7 and is pretty
much self-explanatory. So far, the seasons have been
limited to bucks only, primarily because of the lack
of total population numbers. The herd needs to be
built up before any other type season can be
instituted.
(7) Nonconsumptive Use
Same as deer.
(B) Habitat Loss or Change
There is a potential habitat loss in the Alkali. This
• is along the Gunnison River on the southwest edge.
Portions of this area have been withdrawn for the
Whitewater project of the Bureau of Reclamation.
(The remainder of the species treated in this URA are not
written up in the new 1605 format because of a lack of
information.)
Mountain Lion
There are a few mountain ]ions scattered throughout the
planning unit. There is no doubt about the usefulness
this animal serves in the food chain (primary food - mule
deer). Predator loss records indicate some loss of live-
stock to this animal. Any animal control program could
also eliminate this species from this unit.
Colorado Division of Wildlife has closed the hunting
season on mountain lion in GMU 411, 52, 53, 62, and 63.
• NF-WL-III-11 4/76 RWM
