Inc. (Hawk's Nest Mine)
The Colorado Division of Wildlife does hereby find, to the best of our
knowledge, that the impact of the proposed mining operation on wildlife
will be
x minor
moderate
major
Mine Location: Site ~1
SEA, SWt, Section 10 and SW}, SEA Section 10, T 13 S, R 90 W
Wildlife Species List: (may be attached) Wildlife in the area include songbirds,
raptors, including golden eagles, bald eagles; dove, raccoon, cottontail rabbits,
deer, elk, black bear, coyote, bobcat, amphibians, reptiles and many species of non-
game birds and mammals. Aquatic species include rainbow and brown trout, several
syecies of suckers, d ce and sculpin.
Endangered Species ~mpacted:
Northern bald eagle
• Assessment of Impact on Wildlife: The impacts to wildlife in this area will be
minor. Major impacts on wildlife habitat have occurred in this area during past
mining operations.
Mine Reclamation Recommendations: (may be attached) Reclamation plans should
include cleaning up the area, covering the area with topsoil and revegetation with
native vegetation, such as oakbrush, willow, thin leaf cottonwoods, and other fortis
and grasses such as Indian rice grass, brome grasses, sweet clover and blue grams.
Drainage ditches and settling ponds should be constructed to prevent run-off through
the mine site from reaching the river. Any construction work affecting the river
channel should be mitigated by rehabilitation of riparian habitat and'stream improve-
ments. This can be done during construction work by random rock placement and place-
ment of rock deflectors in the channel. Vegetation along the channel should also be
maintained and replanted when disturbed. Channel reconstruction should be coordinated
with the Division of Wildlife.
• Prepared by Dave Kenvin Title Division Wildlife Manager
Rick Sherman Wildlife Biologist
Date July 26. 1978
