~ • •
United Companies, Inc.
WCT x'201494
April 7, 1994
Page 2
The mining operation will not be excavated to the water table;
thus, no dewatering wells will be used. Since the mining operation
will not encounter the water table and dewatering wells will not be
used, there should be no effect on the water table in the
residential well.
Another potential effect of a mining operation such as this is
vibrations. Trucks will be hauling on the haul road at 108 feet or
greater from the residence. Vibration from trucks has a short
duration and low frequency thus, these vibrations will carry only
a short distance in soils located at the site. This can be
supported by major highways being at much closer distances than the
108 feet with no effects to the structures.
An asphalt plant is proposed for the gravel pit and is planned to
be located at 1100 or more feet from the residence. This distance
is nearly a quarter mile. With the low amount of vibration
developed by the asphalt plant, it is obvious no damage could occur
to the residence or it's components. Vibrations from the asphalt
.~
plant cannot be detected without instrumentation beyond a distance
of 100 feet, in general.
The operation with the greatest vibration potential is the crusher
plant. Land Reclamation requires a 200 foot set back from any
manmade structures for crusher plants. This distance is required
to prevent any significant damage and includes some safety factor.
The closest structure to most crusher plants is the temporary
office or scale houses. These structures would generally be of
much lower quality construction than the residence and have shown
no damage while being place near crusher plants. The 400 feet or
greater distance proposed for the crusher plant is twice the
distance that is considered safe against any damages to manmade ~
structures.
