~ ~ofores S1tar, ~ THURSDAY, MARCH 22, 2001
ON REDUNDANCY
To the Editor:
Redundancy: using more words than
necessary to.make a point.
Is it redundant to keep yelling for
help if drowning, when no one seems
to hear your cries.
Without redundancy you are soon
forgotten and your cause is history.
Redundancy is what wins wars. You
attack and attack again and again -till
you have won. One cannot stand idly
by after so many protested at the three
meetings in opposition to the gravel
pits. Was it redundant when forty to
fifty people attended to voice their ob-
jectionsand present their objections and
present signed petitions?
Redundancy has been used by many
to get things in our society changed.
Remember, the squeaky wheel gets the
grease.
Galen Larson
NO DATA
To the Editor:
On Mazch 15, 2001, the Department
of Minerals and Geology met with con-
cerned citizens of Dolores in regard to
Val Truelsen's Line Camp gravel pit
application. Do you know what I found
out?
They have no data on the effects of
multiple pits in close proximity. This
means they didn't do their homework
nor do [hey have enough information.
And they still might get approved with
such little knowledge of how it could
effect. our Dolores River Valley,
McPhee reservoir; and all the users. of
this water. This is a big potential threat
to our water syster>a and they have no
data.
They have no data on the ground
water which effects and might pollute
wells, drinking water and river water.
They have no data on how it might
effect the quality and quantity of our
drinking water supply and river water
used for irrigation and how about our
animals.
The Line Camp Pits, if they are ap-
proved, are in the 100 yeaz flood zone,
grid will be below [he water table.
They have no data, nor do they have
a map that shows all of the pits that have
been mined, nor the ones that are in
progress, nor the two more pits they
have just approved.
Thank you CFAR for doing your job
in pointing this out to us citizens who
live near or down river, which is also
the town of Dolores. Maybe now we
can do something to help preserve the
Dolores river Valley, and tell them to
take their pits where there are no resi-
dences near by.
Carol A.
