MINING PLAN
' The property that is the sub,~ect of this permit application consists of 37.1
acres in total with 4.3 acres being unaffected by the mining operation.
The area that will be affected by the mining operation consists of 32.8 acres
with 28.5 acres being involved in excavation, and 4.3 acres being affected but
not mined.
An area situated in the north-east corner of the property, that is 4.3 acres in
size, will not be affected by the operation.
As is depicted on the premining map, there is a house and an out-building located
on the property. The house is a portable modular unit which will be removed from
the property and be relocated elsewhere. The out-building will be dismantled and
' removed from the property. The road that is shown from the state highway to the
house will be obliterated.
' Activities that will be conducted at this site will include extraction, crushing,
stockpiling and screening of gravel using surface mining techniques typical to
open pit gravel mining operations, production of hot mixed asphalt, and ready
mixed concrete.
The crusher plant will be a portable plant, which will be located at the site
intermittently as need dictates. Likewise, a portable asphalt plant and portable
t concrete plant will situated at the site as required by the prevailing market.
The development of this site will occur as a continuous process beginning in the
' north-west section and proceeding to the east and then southward.
The sequence of development will begin with the removal of topsoil from the
northern half of the mined area and storing it in berms along the western
' property boundary. Excess soil that cannot be contained in the west berm will
be stored in the southern portion of the property. Topsoil stockpiles will be
marked to identify them. Topsoil will be removed from the entire northern half
' of the mined area in order to protect the integrity of the soil from inadvertent
contamination by petroleum, chemicals and other potential pollutants.
' Once the topsoil is removed, gravel extraction will begin in the extreme north-
west corner of the mined area. The initial crushing operation will be conducted
at the top of the gravel deposit. After the first crushing run and the portable
crusher is moved out, subsequent crusher operations will be set up on the pit
' floor below the ground level. Gravel extraction and processing will proceed from
the north-west to the north-east.
' Gravel stockpiles will initially be situated on top of the deposit in the north-
east section of the mined area.
' 3
