1
EXHIBIT D (Cont'd)
1
Operations
The plan for the sequence of excavation of the eight stages
' is indicated on map Exhibit D-1. The plan for reclamation phases
will follow exactly the same sequence.
' „4ining in each stage will start with topsoil being stripped
~ and stockpiled on adjacent lands which are not to be mined (see
' map Exhibit D-1). Next non-soil overburden will be stripped and
will be stockpiled on adjacent land near but separate from the
soil stockpiles or will be used to backfill the previous stage
', of mining to its planned contour. All stockpiles will be planted
with Western 4Yheatgrass as a protective cover during the mining
' operation.
' All future overburden stockpile sites and haul roads will be
stripped of soils prior to use. These soils will be included in
' other soil stockpiles and planted with lYestern ~']heatgrass.
After the removal of soil and overburden, the clay will be
' mined using bulldozers with rippers and /or scrapers to remove
' and stockpile the materials; then the clay will be loaded with
front end loaders and trucked off site to the brick plant. There
' are no processing or milling operations at this site. This is a
simple operation entailing digging, piling, loading and hauling
' clay.
The lateral change from clay to sand is rapid; thus the edge
'
walls of the pit area will tend to be rather steep while mining
' is in progress. When necessary for safety reasons, these outer
edges of the pit will be excavated using one or more benches.
- 13 -
