~ III IIIIIIIIIIIIIIII ~
DEPARTMENT OF ES
D Monle Pascoe. E,eculrvi _ 999
MINED LAND RECLAMATION DIVISION
DAVID C. SHELTON Director
R~chartl D Lamm
Governor
April 21, 1983
Mr. Larry E. O'Brian
Environment, Inc.
9989 West 60th Avenue
Arvada, Colorado 80004
Re: Walstrum Mine Permit Application
Our File No. 83-33
Dear Mr. O'Brian:
Thank you for your answer to my adequacy letter of March 22, 1983. I have
reviewed your responses to my letter and have the following questions and _
comments. Please respond to each, point-by-point, in as timely a manner as
possible prior to the scheduled April Board meeting.
B. Exhibit D - Mining Plan
The Division needs further explanation as to how the drainage will not
be affected, since initial access to the site is on the west side of this drainage
with all mining being done to theeast of this drainage. How, then, is the
drainage maintained? Will culverts be used? When will the proposed access
road to the east side of the ravine be constructed? How wide is this proposed
road?
The Division is concerned that there is the potential for bench stability
gyp` problems at this site. The basis for this request is pursuant to C.R.S. 1973,
~;t' 34-32-116(1)(1) and Rule 6.1(b). Without this information, the Division is
P \$3 unable to make an accurate assessment of the site and is unable to assess the
~\~3 potential for damage to areas outside the affected land from possible slides.
Therefore, the Division is requesting the information specified in the earlier
letter in order to avoid a denial recommendation based on the lack of sufficient
data.
The Division considers this request reasonable due to the close proximity
\3 of the Conoco complex just south of the affected area. The basis for this request
~\3 is pursuant to C.R.S. 1973, 34-32-116(1)(1). This information is needed to
adequately assess the area and, without it, the Division is forced to recommend
denial. This recommendation can be reversed with the submission of the requested
(March 22, 1983 letter) information.
423 Centennial Building. 1313 Sherman Street Denver. Colorado 802n3 Tel.
