A total of 7,400 feet of this public road traverses the mine site.
The road is surfaced with 1.5-inch or smaller gravel roadbase
. material, 2 feet thick. Average road width is 26 feet. V-ditches,
(6' x 2') following the length of the road, are shown in the drainage
system, Drawing D-4-6.
Improvements to the public road through the mine site were completed
as part of the site drainage plan.
° The road above the coal waste disposal area was
widened as required for haul truck traffic. Any
new exposed embankments will be revegetated to
comply with the Interim Reclamation Plan.
° The entire length of road, as it passes through
the permit area, was regraded or built up as
required to attain a slope of 1v;20h toward the
inside shoulder. A typical section of the road
is shown on Drawing D-4-5.
i
° The road was widened under the conveyor as required to
assure that spillage from the splash pan does not reach
the outslope of the road.
° A minimum 18-inch high berm was constructed on the out-
side shoulder of the road, except at crossroad exits.
This berm is shown on Drawings D-4-5 and D-4-6.
Most private roads serving the mines are dirt roads surfaced with 16
inches of 1.5-inch gravel. They vary in width from 12 to 22 feet.
The access roads to the vent fans, (Drawing D-2-1) and to the
6,500-gallon surge tank are of compacted earth and receive very little
traffic. The road to the surge tank is used about once a year. The
vent fan roads are used once daily. The road to the vent fan for Mine

4-14
