<br />ZORICH - ERKER ENGINEERING, INC. <br />AN ASSESSMENT OF THE HYDROLOGICAL IMPACT <br />OF THE PROPOSED OPEN PIT URANIUM MINE <br />IN MONTROSE COUNTY, COLORADO <br />At the request of Cotter Corporation, a hydrogeologic <br />study was undertaken using currently available data to evaluate the <br />effect on the local groundwater and surface water system of a pro- <br />posed open pit mine operation in Montrose County. <br />The data used in this evaluation consisted of lithologic <br />and geophysical logs of numerous test holes drilled on the property <br />of the proposed pit mine, a series of pit configuration maps showing <br />development of the mine versus time, plan view maps of drill hole <br />locations, a cross-section view of the backfilled pit, a plan view of <br />the final contours following pit backfill, water quality data from <br />the underground operation, records and personal communications re- <br />garding the known geologic and hydrogeologic character of the area <br />and published geologic and topographic maps and reports of the area <br />under investigation. <br />A one day field investigation was conducted to view the <br />present topographic surface, geologic associations and the ground- <br />water occurrences in the underground operation. This field invest- <br />igation together with the data sources listed above in paragraph . <br />two formed the basis for the following analysis. <br />
