Site Location
• The Reinau No. 2 Mine is located in Rio Blanco County 6.1 miles northeast of
Meeker, Colorado on Colorado Highway 13. It is in Section 29 of Township 2 North, Range
93 West, on Curtis Creek, a tributary oP the White River. Merrick and Company station
9+66 corresponds to State Highway 13 station 425+88.9.
Hydrology
Basin Description
The basin contributing flows to Curtis Creek above the mine site has an area of
9.21 square miles and is approximately rectangular in shape with a width of 19,000 feet
and a length of 17,000 Peet. The elevation of the basin ranges from 8,400 feet to 6,875
feet with an average elevation of 7,400 feet.
The ground rising steeply on either side of Curtis Creek creates a nsrrow floodplain
at the mine site.
Factors Influencing Runoff
The soils in the basin are predominantly Paleborolls-Cryoborolls and Camborthids-
Argiborolls associations, Ref 1. The ground is covered with sage, small brush and clump
grasses and there is no development of any consequence.
• Channel Description
The channel of Curtis Creek is an irregular, natural cross section that carries
intermittent flows. The channel has been carved into the Camborthids-Argiborolls
association. There are no apparent debris or ice problems. The existing 100 year
floodplain is partially confined to the east side of State Highway 13.
Precipitation
The 10, 25 and 100 year 24 hour rainstorms were investigated after it was
determined that storm events were the most probable cause of flooding. The average
annual precipitation for the basin is 19". The rainfall for the events selected and other
parameters are listed in tabular form on the attached sheet marked "Hydrologic
Ltformation".
Flood History
There have been no recorded floods at the mine site; however, there is evidence of
a small floodplain on the sides of the channel.
•
