4

Based on the laboratory test results, the natural clays and clay fill materials encountered in the test
holes classified as A-6 to A-7-6 soils in accordance with the AASHTO classification system. These
types of soil generally rate as fair [o poor subgrade materials. The road base materials encountered in
the test holes generally classified as Class 5 road base gravels in accordance with the Colorado
Depaz[ment of Transportation (CDOT) classification system. The laboratory test results are
summarized in the attached Table 1.
Conclusions and Recommendations: Based on the subsurface conditions encountered and the
assumed traffic loadings, we recommend that the areas restricted to automobile pazking be paved with
a minimum of 3 inches of asphalt. The areas which are subjected to both automoble and truck traffic,
such as the entrance roadway or the portion of the parking azea in which the trucks will be unloaded,
should be paved with a minimum of 4 inches of asphalt. Prior to placing the asphalt materials, we
recommend that the roadways be reshaped [o provide sufficient crown and then be recompacted to at
least 95 percent of m~mum modified Proctor density, determined in accordance with ASTM D1557.
If you have any
service, please c
Sincerely, ~
• ~iOR
Brian D.
•
Job No. 97-3145
this report, otu recommendations, or if we may be of any further
P.E. 9l' 1 /
Northwest Colorado Consultants, Inc.
Page 2
