Survey Area Description <br />Project: Weimer Ranch Pit <br />USGS Map: Naturlta, Colo., 7.5 min., 1964, photoinspected 1979 <br />Legal Location: NE 1/4, SW 1/4, NE 1/4, Section 24, Township 46 North, Range 16 West, <br /> NMPM, Montrose County, Colorado (Figure 2) <br />Ownership: Private, Weimer Ranch <br />Area Surveyed: 10.5 acres (4.25 ha) <br />Description: This proposed gravel source pit is situated on the southern edge of First <br /> Park, a large flat mesa north of the San Miguel River Valley (Figure 3). <br /> The top of the mesa is covered with sagebrush flats, while pinyon-juniper <br /> woodland occurs on the edges and sides of the mesa. The soil is sandy silt <br /> over gravel. The pit measures 600 by 762 feet. Access Is by exlsttng track <br /> roads from the Hopkins-Montrose County airport. <br />Cultural Resources: None. <br />Recommendations: Cultural Resource Clearance is recommended for the Weimer Ranch Pit. <br />6 <br />Figure 3.
