•
Reclamation Plan
Cortner Feedlot-Pit Ill
This is in reference to an on-site investigation done December 3
a proposed gravel mine located in the NEB of the NE~y of section
R64W. The following information may be used by your company to
the requirements of [he Colorado Mined Land Reclamation Board.
1986 on
4 T21S
The post-mining use is livestock grazing. The site is not prime farmland.
The owner of the land is Mr. Cortner. Ne will be responsible fo the
reclamation.
The Cascajo soils support a plant community that is dominated by blue grama
with amounts of sand dropseed, sideoats grama, galleta and scatt red forbs
and shrubs. See the attached CO-ECS-2 for a more detailed estim to of
plant cover and percent composition. The Soil Conservation Serv ce recom-
mends the following steps to revegetate the site:
1) The site has a very cobbly topsoil. Six inches of the top 1
be removed and stockpiled.
2) After mining is complete and prior to spreading the topsoil,
should be banksloped so that no slope exceeds a 3:1 slope. Roug
be smoothed [o permit easier seeding and mulching. The area sho
scarified, to a depth of 6 inches to permit better bonding betwe~
soil and the underlying soil material. After scarification, the
should be uniformly spread over the area.
3) A soil test should be performed to determine the proper Pert
quirement. In lieu of a soil test, fertilize the entire area wi
pounds per acre each of available elemental nitrogen (N) and pho
acid (PZOS). The ferilizer must be incorporated into the top 2
of soil using a disk or harrow implement. Fertilizer should be
immediately prior to seeding, or at the time of seeding. See It
using manure as a fertilizer.
4) Soils that have been overcompacted by traffic or equipment s
tilled to break up rooting restrictive layers, harrowed and then
or packed to prepare the required firm seedbed. The seedbed sho
settled and Eirm, but friable enough that seed can be placed at
mended seeding depth. The ideal firmness is when a one-half inc
print remains after walking across the soil surface.
Species Variety MixY, Lbs.
sideoats grama Vaughn or Niner 50 4.'
blue grama Covington or Hachi[a 30 0.'
sand dropseed - 10 0.
switchgrass Grenville 10 0..
should
the area
areas should
ld be
n the top-
zer re-
40
oric
3 inches
lied
7 for
ould be
rolled
ld be well
he recom-
boot
