Exhibit B -Man Made Structures within 200 Feet
The application states that there is no reasonable probability that the
mining will adversely affect the stability of any of the man-made structures within
200 feet of the permit area. You have asked us to explain why we can make
such a statement, and to use supporting data to explain why the Salvation Ditch
and the Subdivision Access Road will not be harmed.
The reason we can make the above statement with a high degree of
confidence is experience. The Salvation Ditch is very solid and stable, but is
probably the most sensitive man-made structure within 200 feet of the permit
boundary. The Salvation Ditch has existed since near the turn of the century;
extensive mining has gone on at the mine since construction of the ditch; the
ditch has never been harmed; the mining of 10 tons per day will be a much lower
level of activity than has gone on historically; and, history and experience indicate
that there is no reason to believe that the activities proposed in this permit
application will harm the ditch.'
Likewise, the Smuggler Mountain Road (County Road) going by the site
has never been harmed by the activities at the site, and there is no reason to
believe that the activities proposed in this permit application will harm any road
within 200 feet of the permit boundary, including the Subdivision Access Road.
The only activities that we can imagine that might harm any adjacent road would
be for us to dig it up or bury it with waste. And, we do not intend to do these
types of things because these activities would be illegal because these roads are
outside our permit boundary.
