1. Of the three principal cool season grass species, no single species
• should comprise greater than 40% of the relative importance of this
component (cool season grasses). OE the two shrub species, neither should
comprise greater than 80% of the relative importance of this component
(shrubs). That is; iE cool season grasses comprise 30% of the total
diversity on the reclaimed surface, then none of the three principal cool
season grasses should account for more than 40% of the total diversity
for cool season grasses (or 12% of total diversity).
2. Diversity calculations will be based on relative cover values by
species, obtained during the sampling program during the liability
period. Sufficient numbers of samples shall be taken to insure that the
requirements of sample adequacy are met.
Shrub Density
Wyoming Fuel has analyzed the structure and numbers of woody plants in the
pre-mining communities at the Canadian Strip. It was concluded that there
is a high mortality amoung young woody plants and that it is only the
mature plants which are contributory to a caell developed community. For
these reasons Wyoming Fuels has proposed a standard of 3,770 stems/acre + 1,700.
The Division feels that the 3,770 stems/acre is a reasonable standard based
upon the background information submitted, with the following clarifications.
1. The base standard for woody plant density reestablishment shall be
• 3,700 live woody plant stems/acre. lJyoming Fuel will reestablish woody
plant densities to at lease 90% of this standard with 80% confidence.
2, Woody plant density data will be collected during the sampling program
during the liability period.
If you have any questions please feel free to call.
Sincerely,
,~rGLu.O s 5...,
Piichael S.
