<br />1 Ground Water Resources <br />The sand and gravel deposits range in thickness from 30 to <br />40 feet throughout the site. Ground water occurs in the pore <br /> spaces of these deposits at depths ranging from 10 to 27 feet <br /> beneath the land surface, depending upon the proximity to the <br />' river. The saturated thickness of the sands and gravels can <br /> be as much as 20 feet. The flow of ground water in the flood- <br />! plain of the Cache la Poudre River is generally to the south- <br /> east in the same direction as the river. Locally within the <br /> valley, ground water moves from the sands and gravels toward <br /> the river. Ground water discharge from these deposits supports <br /> a base flow in the river. <br /> <br /> Ground water resources in the vicinity of the mining site <br /> are recharged by infiltration of precipitation and infiltration <br />1 from ditch and lateral losses. The irrigation of lands and <br /> high runoff in the river during the spring account for the high <br /> water table throughout much of the floodplain of the Cache la <br /> Poudre River. The depth to water throughout the property ranges <br /> from 5 to 15 feet beneath the land surface during this part <br />' of the year. When runoff decreases and crops consume more <br /> irrigation water, the water levels decline and may be as much <br />' as 10 to 27 feet deep beneath the land surface. <br /> <br /> Throughout the area wells have been drilled into the sands <br />and gravels for domestic, stock, irrigation and commercial uses. <br />Well yields range from less than 5 gallons per minute (gpm) for <br />domestic and stock uses to as much as 900 gpm for irrigation <br />C-3 <br />
