Your letter was given to
me since I often work with mine and subdivision requests.
I have looked at the site on August 15, 2006. Here are some items to consider as you assist
the applicant with their plans.
1. Planned reclaimed use to range land is, in our opinion a logical use.
2. Ground Water- according to the Harkins report of five test pits dug (April 2005) seems
likely that ground water will be encountered if mining is done deeper than 13 feet below
the surtace. The applicants should be advised that Colorado now has rather strict rules
regarding excavation where ground water occurs. We suggest the local State Division
of Water Resources representative be consulted before final mining pians are finalized.
His name is, Charles Judge, Water Commissioner, P.O. Box 135, Wetmore, CO 81253,
(719)784-3172.
3. Will the final mined out pit retain or hold water'? Unless there is a water storage permit it
should drain out.
4. Page 17 -thickness of replaced soil for reclamation. We recommend a minimum of 12"
of replaced topsoil. The soil should be free of rocks and gravel.
CONSERVATION -DEVELOPMENT -SELF-GOVERNMENT
C ... nAA.nnr. • I.n.nhn N?.lrn n n,Inof nci
C-wail auw wo. jna,ic~.uan n,a~.~u...naw„~..u~.
