REVEG~TATION GUIDCLINF.:,
1. lifter earth disturbance operations the following steps are needed:
A. ride slopes should be flatter than ?:1. Slopes of h:l or
flatter are much mare desirable for greater success in
re-establishment of vegetation and operation of equipment.
B. Excess water from adjacent areas should not he allowed to
flow onto the area unless erasion control oractires are
implemented.
C. Length of slope should be properly controlled to prevent
erosion.
D. Topsoil is needed on sites having e-.cposed soil surfaces
low in organic naterial and texture classification of
clay loam or heavier. This need increases significantly
if the soils are inherently dry, if the slopes are
greater than 6:1 and if the slope aspect is south or
southwest. Topsoil should be applied after shaping and tilled
to a depth of G inches binding topsoil to existing soil.
2. Fertilization
A. Fertilizer of not less than 40 lbs, nitrogen and 40 lbs.
phosphorous should be applied unless a soil analysis indicates
sufficient amounts of these elements. Application of
fertilizers should be i~unediately prior to or at the time
of seeding.
3. Seedbed Preperation
A. The seedbed should be prepared immediately following all
earth moving operations prescribed in the engineering and
landscape de:;ign.
i3. All rocks, trash and other debris that will interfere with
seedi.nr, should be removed. Till the ground tc a depth of
4 to `~ inches. If the seedbed is prepared immediately
follusring construction this operation can usually be omitted,
exceo'. on fresh r:ut areas that have nut otherwise been
disturbed. Apply fer~ilizer, seed and mulch, if needed.
4. r;~.,l:hing
A. .; mulch may be needed to conserve moisture, prevent
rrusting, reduce runoff and erosion anal help establish
a plcutt cover.
9, h7ul.r•.hing ^~iteri^i shuuld be applied inr..ediately before or
C. 1•:ithur :mu ul' tlr•~ mulching, i~ietYlrid:, li:a.ed bcluw wuuld be
acceptable.
