Ammonium (N03-N). A total of 10 Southfield samples were analyzed with
respect to ammonium. Values of ammonium ranged from 6 ppm in a Red Arrow
floor sample (SR-50), to 94 ppm in a Jack O'Lantern roof sample (SR-49),
with an average value of 59 ppm. While no regulatory suspect level exists
at this time, Barth et. al., (1981) recommended a toxicity threshold of
160 pp. Using an upper limit of 160 ppm, all Southfield sample values
fall into the acceptable range. Given site groundwater characteristics,
these levels should not effect groundwater quality.
Sulfate (S04). A total of 10 Southfield samples were analyzed with
respect to sulfate. Values of sulfate ranged from 9 ppm in a Red Arrow
floor sample (SR-50), to 210 ppm in a Red Arrow roof sample (SR-50). The
average value of sulfate is 53 ppm but the Red Arrow strata average was
93 ppm compared to the Jack 0' Lantern strata average of 26 ppm. No
suitability limits exist for sulfate, however, given site groundwater
characteristics, these levels should not effect groundwater quality.
• Arsenic (As). A total of 10 Southfield samples were analyzed for arsenic.
The average value of these samples was 0.1 ppm with a range from -0.1 ppm
to a high of 0.4 ppm in a Red Arrow floor sample. All analysis values are
well below the published suitability limit of 2.0 ppm so no problems with
revegetation toxicity or groundwater quality are anticipated.
Barium (Ba). A total of 10 Southfield samples were analyzed for barium.
The average value of these samples was -0.1 ppm with no traceable high or
low values. Due to these low values, no problems with toxicity or
groundwater quality are anticipated.
Boron 6 A total of 10 Southfield samples were analyzed for boron. The
average value of these samples was 0.4 ppm with a low of 0.3 ppm in floor
samples for both seams and a high of 0.5 ppm in the Jack O'Lantern roof
and floor at SR-46. These values are well below the 5.0 ppm suitability
limit commonly utilized for boron. No problems with revegetation toxicity
• or groundwater quality are anticipated.
2.04.6-24
