DISTURBED AREA RF."~G?TATION RECOMMENDATIONS
1~OR: Jerry Jensen
Theraal Ceramics Industries
b21 17th #1721 80202
BACKGROUND:
Site inspected April 27, 1977 xith William Brandt Consulting
Engineer and Lee Bentz. Area located on Hogback on zest side of
highxay 93 Approx 2 miles North of Golden. The area consists
of a cut along a steep bank running North and South. Area to be
revegetated is rest facing. The bench that is created is from
25-60 feet aide and approximately 600 feet long at present.
SITE PREPARATION:
The bank should be leveled as best as possible xith the slope
running back toward the hill to retain as much xater as possible
and present excessive erosion. Since soils are highly susceptible
to xater erosion sloping of bank should be as close to 6:1 as
possible. A firm but not hard seedbed is needed for best results.
Iliscing or light chisiling before seeding is desireable.
SEEDING RECOMMENDATIONS:
Adapted varieties are limited but on attached CO-CONS-b ;-re seeding
rates, dates, and species selection for area. Since seed:ing will
be broadcast the amount should be doubled.
MULCHING:
A stray mulch should be used to spread over seeded area to break
rainfall velocity, provide ground cover and add organic matter
to soil. If straw is not available n manure mulch can also be
spread. Attached are mulching specifications.
SLOPING:
As stated previously slopes should not exceed 3:1 xhere F~osaible
xith drainage eloped into existing xall.
MAINTENANCE:
Watering is not feasible so time of year for planting shculd be
given a high priority. Soil fertilization is not necessary for
first year unless desired and then only after sod has been
checked for defiencies. No gracing should be allowed for 1 year
after establishment.
WOODY PLANT MATERIALS ACID WILDLIFE CONSIDERATIONS:
The sites provides excellent habitat for game birds and small
mammals. ~'he woody plant are also useful for cover and erosion
control.
Clump plantings are advisable for this area. Selected species
are attached.
+} As flat as is feasiable, sloping inxard.
