/'~
~_MOUNTAIN COAL
~~' 1.%' (OMPANYL.L.C.
A Subsidiary a(Arth W estem Resources, LLC
Wes[ Elk Mine
P.O. Box 591
S l74 Highway l33
Somerset, CO 81434
(970)929-5015
Far (970) 929-5595
The biological and cultural reports from our contractor (Greystone Consultants) indicate that there aze
neither threatened, endangered, sensitive species, nor cultural resources present at these pad locations.
These reports aze attached for your review.
The approval from the USFS for these borehole pad locations is expected very soon. As soon as the
approval is granted to MCC from the USFS to construct the pads and drill the boreholes, copies of the
approval decisions will be forwazded to the Division.
Approval from the CDMG for these pad locations is necessary for MCC to relieve methane thought to
occur in this azea of the B-Seam in Longwall Panels 1 d and 15.
Existing roads will be used to access these pad locations. I[ is anticipated that less than 2.0 acres of
disturbance will occur as a result of the construction of each of the pads and our current experience has
been that only 1.4 acres is required for each of the borehole pads. The length of time to drill and
complete the holes is approximately 20 days for each borehole. Afrer the boreholes have been drilled
most of the area will be reclaimed. A short road for access and installation of the portable de-gas pump
will be required at each pad location. Water will be supplied to the pads via flexible hose laid on the
ground. The source of the water will be from the mine site (Discharge Point 017) at the De-watering
Borehole Facility in Sylvester Gulch.
MCC requests the Division's assistance in calculating the bond estimate for these gob vent degas pads
and boreholes.
Please notify me if you have questions regarding this minor revision request.
Sincerely,
~~~~~~~
enry Barbe
Environmental Engineer
cc: W.
