72C-Unnamed sandy loam, 1 to 12 percent slopes <br />This deep, well drained, nearly level to sloping soil is on alluvial . <br />fans and terraces. It formed in mixed alluvium derived from redbed <br />sandstones and shales with a mantle of volcanic material on the surface. <br />Elevation ranges from (e ,3 00 to 7,200 feet. The average annual pre- <br />cipitation is about 14 inches, the average annual air temperature is <br />about 44 degrees F., and the frost-free period is about 85 to 105 days. <br />Typically, the surface layer is brown sandy loam about 13 inc}~es thick <br />in the upper part and grayish brown sandy loam about 10 inches thick <br />in the lower part. These surface layers have a gritty feel due to the <br />volcanic material. The underlying layers are reddish brown sandy loam <br />about 12. inches thick and light reddish brown sandy loam that extends <br />to 60 inches or more. <br />Thickness of the dark colored surface layers ranges from 10 to 26 <br />inches. Texture is usually a sandy loam, fine sandy loam, or lozm <br />all with a gritty feel due to pumice. The underlying layers range <br />from sandy loam to loamy sand but also include some thin layers of <br />loam and sandy clay loam. Color of the underlying layers range in <br />hue from 7.5YR to 5YR with some thin strata IravinF more yellow hues. <br />Included with this soil in mapping are some small areas of Patent loam <br />having slopes of 1 to 12 percent. <br />I-10 -- ----------- ------ <br />
