WATER RESOURCES
Setting
The Eagle River is the principal surface water feature in the vicinity
of the Chambers Pit. The stream originates northwest of Fremont Pass
and flows northwest and west to its confluence with the Colorado
River west of Gypsum, Colorado. Much of its annual discharge is
created by spring and summer runoff resulting from snow melt in the
mountains. Precipitation and discharged ground water also contri-
bute to stream flow.
Mining Impacts
The mining operation will not contribute surface drainage to the
Eagle River. Dewatering of the mine site is not expected to be
necessary. No existing drainage patterns will be substantially
altered nor will irrigation ditches which carry water off site be
affected. The Eagle River will not be obstructed nor will any
existing water diversion structures be interfered with.
Mining will not affect the floodplain of the Eagle River. The site
is outside the 100-year floodplain as mapped March 21, 1980 for
the National Flood Insurance Program (see map).
The area where crushing will occur will be contoured so that debris,
dust or other possible pollutants will not be washed into the Eagle
River. All federal and local water quality regulations will be
complied with.
G-1
