t4INING REPORT
Goal
The purpose of this project is to level and regrade agricultural
land by excavating sand and gravel. The project site contains
approximately 149 acres of which approximately 52.4 acres may be
excavated. Gravel extraction will consist of relocating the gravel
terrace face to conform with existing irrigation ditches. Gravel
faces will be left at 2:1 or 3:1 slopes. The excavated land will
be graded to an approximate .5~ slope. Grading will eliminate water
entrapment areas. The leveling and gracing process will result
in creation of agricultural land which can better utilize irrigation
flows and groundwater. A lake will also be created. Excavated
land to be revegetated for pasture will be topsoiled to a depth of
4 to 8 inches.
General Description of Operation
The sand and gravel deposit at the proposed Chambers Pit may pro-
vide construction material for 11 to 28 years depending on market
conditions. Two areas will be mined concurrently, with activity at
Area A being limited to times when winds are minimal and when soil
moisture content is sufficient to result in good dust control.
The areas to be excavated are parts of a terrace above the Eagle
River. The sand and gravel deposit rises to approximately 30
feet above the valley. The terrace face slopes at approximately 2:1
and supports sparse vegetation including a scattering of trees.
Distance from the terrace excavation to the river varies, being
closest at the western mining area (B), where its usual distance
D-1
