1. Seed Mix and Rate
Refer to Part I -Grass Seeding Planned (Form CO-ECS-S) for recommended grasses.
The species planned are indigenous to the site as indicated in attached Table 7 --
Rangeland Productivity and Characteristic Plant Communities.
2. Fertilizer Requirements
Fertilizer should be applied according to site specific soil tests. Fertilizer should be
applied prior to seeding, at the time of seeding or immediately following seeding, as
applicable to the type of fertilizer and equipment used.
3. Seedbed Preparation and Planting
The seedbed should be well settled and firm. The seedbed should be reasonably free of
weeds. Competitive stands of weeds should be sprayed with herbicides labeled for grass
seeding.
Seed should be planted with a grass drill. Grass drills should be equipped with double
disk openers, depth bands and press wheels. Row spacing should be from 7-12 inches.
Seed should be planted uniformly and at a depth of 1/4 inch to 3/4 inch.
On areas too steep to drill, the seed should be broadcast. The seeding rate should be
doubled when seed is broadcast.
4. Mulching
All areas should be mulched unless a cover crop is planted. Planted areas should be
mulched with straw at a rate of 4000 Ib/ac. The straw mulch should be crimped into the
soil with a mulch crimper or disk plow. A disk plow can be used by setting [he disk
straight and applying adequate weight to crimp the straw four inches into the soil. Mulch
should be applied immediately before or after seeding.
