Site/Feature Type: Homestead <br />4. General Site/Feature Description: Site consists of three buildings (two cabins and <br />an outhouse) and a corral. All appear to be fairly recent construction and area <br />associated with modern glass, hinges, door handles and other modern materials. Wooden <br />staves present in both cabins. Structure q 2 in association with the outhouse, <br />Structure N 1 is approximately 310 m southwest up a small drainage. Inside Structure <br />~ 1: Wooden bed frame, mattress, dresser, firewood. Inside Structure q 2: bunkbeds, <br />cast iron stove, gas stove, four modern chairs, countertop (built-in) and curtains. <br />5. Historic Component date(s) and/or sociopolitical period: Homesteading, based on <br />• ranching, was the main economic base for this location. First Receiver Receipt (RR) <br />was issued on 04/04/04 to George A. Cook which was finally patented in 1905. This <br />parcel was sold to James M. Whetstone on 01/09/17. Whetstone retained ownership until <br />12/27/26 when Oliver W. Hooker purchased this parcel. Eleven years later John Shaw <br />bought the property on 09/08/31. After four years George Annard purchased this tract <br />on 09/28/35. The Annard family retained ownership until 1/22/87 when Peabody Coal <br />Company (current owner) acquired the property. The buildings are probably associated <br />with the Annard family. <br />justification: Courthouse records and library files. <br />6.
