~.
~ ~~
REVEGETATION GUIDELINES
1. After earth disturbance operations the following steps are
A. Side slopes should be flatter than 3:1. Slopes of 6;1
flatter arc much more desirable for greater success in
re-establishment of vegetation and operation of equipmc
B. Excess water from adjacent areas should not be allowed
flow onto the area unless erosion control practices arc
implemented.
C. Length of slope should be properly controlled to prever
erosion.
D. Topsoil is needed on sites having exposed soil surface:
low in organic material and texture classification of
clay Loam or heavier. Tliis need increases significant]
if the soils are inherently dry, if the slopes are
greater than 6;1 and if the slope aspect is south or
southwest. Topsoil should be applied after shaping and
to a depth of 6 inches binding topsoil to existing soil
needed:
or
nt.
to
tilled
2, Fertilization
A. Fertilizer of not less than 40 lbs, nitrogen and 40 lbs.
phosphorous should be applied unless a soil analysts i dicates
sufficient amounts of these elements. Application of
fertilizers should be immediately prior to or at the t' e
of seeding.
3. Seedbed Preparation
A. The seedbed should be prepared i~mnediately following all
earth moving operations prescribed in the engineering a d
landscape design.
B. All rocks, trash and other debris that will interfere ith
seeding should be removed. Till the ground to a depth of
4 to 6 inches. If the seedbed is prepared immediately
following construction this operation can usually be omit
except on fresh cut areas that have not otherwise been
disturbed. Apply fertilizer, seed and mulch, if needed.
4. Mulching
A. A mulch may be needed to conserve moisture, prevent
crusting, reduce runoff and erosion and help establish
a plant cover.
B. Mulching material should be applied immediately before r
after seeding.
C. Either one of the mulching methods listed below would b
acceptable.
1. Grass hay or cereal grain straw should be used at
an application rate of 4,000 lbs./ac. of air dry ma erial.
At least 50% of the mulch by weight shall be 10 inc es
or more in length. Anchor mulch immediately after it
distributing with mulch crimper or disc plow,
