Exhibit J -Vegetation information
Native vegetation in the potcntial plant community would include mainly Indian Ricegrass,
Bluebunch wheatgrasses and alkali sacaton as the predominant grasses. The chazacteristic
undisturbed plant community based on associations with soil types is given as follows:
Soil Type Species Percent Composition
Kim loam Indian Ricegrass 15
Bluebunch Wheatgrass 15
Prairie 3unegrass 10
Muttongrass 10
Western wheatgrass l0
Big Sagebrush t0
Needle-and-thread 5
Low rabbitbrush 5
Wann sandy loam Alkali Sacaton 35
Saltgrass 10
Baltic Rush i0
Low rabbitbrush ]0
Skunkbush Sumac 10
Sedge 10
Under favorable conditions the Kim and Wann soils are capable of producing 1,000 and
2,500 pounds per acre dry weigh[ respectively. Unfavorable conditions reduce the estimated dry
weight production to 500 and 1,500 pounds per acre respectively
The location and type of the vegetation on the proposed site and surrounding area is presented on
Exhibit C - Premining/Mining Plan.
I. Existing Disturbed Area -- Phase I and Phase llt Areas
The site exists on slopes that range from nearly level to a Few percent. The Phase I area
has been previously mined and is nearly completely disturbed (MII~pVS/Chambers Pit}, Prior to
disturbance, this area was classified as having a Wann sandy loam soil type. Some Tamarisk has
invaded the pond slopes and some grass and grass like plants are evident. Cottonwood trees exist
in areas which have not been disturbed for many years. The Phase Ill area has been mined in the
recent past by Elam Construction. Cottonwood trees and Tamerisk are located along the buffer
zone between the disturbed pit area and the river. Most of the ground surface is bare.
Page I - 1
