being drained from the QR aquifer in this area. Mining is very close to this well and t
TDS values may be a function of the mining activities in this area. An overall gradually
increasing concentration in well GD-3 occurred from 1989 through 1994. The TDS for the
last couple of years seems to have reached a fairly constant level in well GD-3. They TDS
in this backfill aquifer is greater than it is downgradient in the R Coal at GD-2. A small
gradual increase in TDS existed over the last three years in well GD-2. This change in
value is too small to determine whether it is natural or is caused by upgradient mining.
Figure B-3 also presents a group of five QR wells. Well GF-11 is an equivalent backfill
monitor wells. A gradual decreasing trend currently exists in backfill well GF-11. This plot
indicates that the maximum concentration in this backfill aquifer may have been obtained
in 1994 and 1995. Concentrations in the QR aquifer are monitored downgradient at well
GF-6 and has shown no influence from the upgradient mining. Figure B-3 also presents the
TDS concentrations for QR wells GP-5 and GP-6. Well GP-6 is upgradient of well GP-5
and contains a slightly lower TDS than downgradient in well GP-5, as expected. The TDS
in the QR aquifer in the east portion of the Trapper Mine at well GP-1 has been fairly steady
for the last several years.
Figure B-4 presents the TDS concentrations for five KLM aquifer wells. Well GA-
2 values are shown as a solid blue dot and was not been sampled in 1995 or 1996 due to
the fact that the well has gone dry. Well GF-3 is shown with red squares and TDS values
indicate a very gradual increasing trend in TDS over time. This change in TDS is well
within the natural fluctuation in TDS in the KLM aquifer. The data for well GP-4 is
presented in magenta on Figure B-4 and shows a fairly steady TDS concentration for the
last several years with the exception of one high outlier. TDS concentrations for two of the
3-2
