Using the SCS Soil Survey for E1 Paso County, two soils make up the permit
area. Blakeland with a topsoil of 0-11 inches comprises 67"0 of the permit area
and Columbine with a topsoil of 0-6 inches comprises 33°e of the permit area.
A tough average topsoil depth for the permit area calculates to 7-9".
5. The only soil compaction to be provided on the topsoil and reclaimed slopes
will be from the graders, scrapers and drills used to grade, replace and seed
the reclaimed areas. Review of the Engineering properties table (Exhibit I)
indicates the soils are SM-SC and SM for the Blakeland and Columbine respec-
tively. Further both soils are classed as either very low or non-plastic,
meaning compaction to any degree is difficult. Soils of this nature are usu-
ally compacted with vibrators by engineers for construction purposes, but
seldom for seed bed preparation.
6. Topsoil will be tested after final grading and beFore planting to determine
amendment needs.
7. a. The rates given for seed mixtures are pounds pure live seed per
acre (PLS/Acre)
b. Seeds will be drilled.
c. Costs have been included.
8. See answer 2. Exhibit D.
There will be no "scarps" and "sub-vertical cuts" left within the permit area.
Those terms have been deleted from the application.
10. See new pages E-4 and E-5 attached.
11. See answer 9 Exhibit D. Vegetated berm, are riprap will be used where
necessary: northern rim and southwestern corner.
