We are opposed to the approval of
mines in environmentally sensitive areas like Camilletti Pit #2 will be, if it is approved.
The following are the major ways in which we are aggrieved.
• Mental Anguish
• Loss of recreational fishing downstream caused by pit capture and river contamination
especially capture of the silt ponds as could happen in a 100-year flood.
• Pain and suffering caused by the loss of wildlife habitat as could happen in as the vegetation
dies from lack of water
• Water well contamination as is possible by removing water from the ground and
introducing chemicals used for dust control, fuels and other contaminants to the
groundwater by wastewater treatment, dewatering and other processes.
• Material injury caused by water well depletion in private water wells and tfie municipal water
well used by 200 people in the Milner Trailer Park caused by taking 750,000 gallons of water
per day from the watertable and only replacing part of it.
I. Mental An~ttish over aaoroval based on untruths
Residents near the site and downstream have already experienced mental anguish as a result of
Routt County Commissioner's decision to approve a Special Use Permit that was based on wrong
floodplain and floodway information as presented by the applicant as well as incorrect dewatering
information. Not only was their basis incorrect, but also information to the contrary was presented
to them but was not reviewed or considered. It is extremely disturbing and damagwg to citizen
trust in government that an applicant can give any information in writing and it is taken as true by
County and State officials without thorough investigation, particularly when statements to the
contrary are presented by citizens.
If this application is approved by the DMG Board, based on the same wrong information, we will
again suffer mental anguish. We would like the Board to consider the facts outlined in an analysis
of the applicant's 100-Year Floodplain Delineation completed by George McCoy, Ph.D, of Aquatic
Environmental Services, Inc. in Boulder, Colorado. Dr. McCoy's qualifications are enclosed.
The floodplain delineation and other reporting submitted by the applicant have not always been
truthful. There have been many inaccurate statements, lack of information and errors surrounding
the floodplain mapping and other water related issues. For example, the applicant quoted
renowned scientist Dr. David Cooper's articles and studies but instead of telling the whole truth,
they only used the facts that would make their case. Fortunately, Dr. Cooper came forward to
dispute their claims. At this point, there were too many unanswered questions and the community
